African Millet - Baby's Nutritious Feed
By Nnamdi Agha
This article is a follow up on the comment I made at World's best Natural Baby food, which is an article written by a wikinut member, nettowealth. You will have to go and read the article so that this article will be more meaningful to you. While commenting after reading the said article, I had mentioned that the finger millet was good and that we also use it to feed our babies though the method of preparation was different from the way written in the article. Thereafter, the writer commented that I should share the method of our preparation and that is what I am about to do in this article. Before moving on, I have to confess that English is my second language. I may have a good command of the language, but, there are things that are still confusing to me when I want to name it in English. Therefore, what I do not have a name for, I will describe in the hope that you will understand what it is and give it its proper name. Preparation of African Millet the IGBO Way. I will not dwell on the nutritional benefits of the African millet but on our way of preparing it. For starters, we do not grow millet in my part of Nigeria but in the Northern part which is semi arid. Therefore, the millet is not native to us though some people grow it as a part of plants in their farm under inter-cropping. This is unlike what is done in the north where very large farms are planted with millet. We are conversant with corn which is grown in our farms. Corn and millet belong to the same family of crops. We combine corn and millet in our baby food preparation though the two can be prepared separately for family needs. After processing the millet, it is preserved in many ways until needed. Making baby food out of the processed millet is simple. Read all about it in the next article. If you are not yet making money writing articles, join Wikinut and make money online writing articles. |
